Let me first apologize for the atrocious time between releases. I've been wanting to update this for like ever. Real life unfortuately has first dibs on me, and I program for a living. So programming more when I get home is sometimes very tough to get motivated for. Anyone who is in my field I'm sure can sympathize. Anyhow, I found some time about a week
ago and decided to get some additions into it. I still have a few more things left I wanna wrap up, so Im hoping to release another version soon (without a year passing ;) )

Reset-On-Eject and Red-led problem with Pheonix Loader fixed
>> Some people using the Pheonix bios loader were having problems with Reset-On-Eject (xbox resets when pressing eject - something we don't want on a modded xbox).
Artifex posted this information on the Pheonix Loader thread on the forums:
Reset on eject is now confirmed to be caused by a combination of either BiCoE or Complex !Loader, and the Bios Loader.

You see, both BiCoE and complex !loader patch bytes into specific locations in memory. However, because the x2 4977 bfm bios is a bit abnormal, these locations for the patches end up a little off. So... problems ensue.

Red-led fix coming as soon as we test!
The Red-led problem is also solved. From Artifex on our forums:
Red Led problem solved.

You must open ernie.xtf in a hex editor, and search for the byte A0. In bigfonts it is at offset 0xF111B5. In the original version its at offset 0x76FF35. In reloaded, it will be at 0x958459. Dont use BiCoE, as stated previously.

Find this byte and change it from A0 (red blink) to 0F (solid green), F0 (for solid red), or FF (for solid orange).

Please let me know if this doesnt solve the problem, as we're not sure that it will solve it universally. :-)

Microsoft results reveal new Xbox sales figures
>> By Rob Fahey on gamesindustry.biz:
By the end of the financial year, Microsoft had sold 9.4 million Xbox consoles worldwide - far, far lower than some estimates recently, which had put the figure well north of the 10 million mark, with one piece of research suggesting that it was as high as 13 million.
During fiscal 2003, Microsoft sold 5.5 million consoles, and in the next year it expects to sell between 5 and 6.6 million consoles - bringing the installed base to somewhere between 14.5 and 16 million units in total.

One thing which emerges very clearly from the figures is that Microsoft is distinctly struggling in territories outside North America. A massive 6.2 million of its Xbox installed base - some 66 per cent, or two thirds - resides in North America, with Asia Pacific accounting for a mere 1 million units and Europe also lagging very badly, with 2.2 million units.
It's common for industry analysts to mention how badly Xbox is doing in Japan, and how poorly GameCube is doing in Europe - but even more so than the overall sales figures (which, interestingly, put Cube and Xbox almost neck and neck on a global level, with around 9.5 million units each - so why are so many US-based analysts desperate to write off the Cube?), these figures illustrate the gulf between the PS2 and its would-be competitors. Sony has no territory in which it is weak, while the Cube and the Xbox clearly only have one territory each in which they could be considered strong (Japan for the Cube, North America for the Xbox), and are struggling elsewhere.

Phoenix Bios Loader *updated*
>> From nfo:
For the first time ever, we have made it possible to boot a completely new rom from the hard drive, when booting from ANY kernel. Microsoft provided the ability for debug bioses to be booted from the hard drive or cdrom, but we do not require you to be running a debug bios to utilize this feature.
The advantage of this method over others recently released (by ourselves and others), is that this application will work on ALL bios versions. Previously, the most compatible version was Complex's (great job with the loader plugin architecture guys), but it did not work on the new 5010 and 5101 retail bios revisions. Even though more compatibility is added with each version they still will not work on any new bios revisions to come, without a new release being required for each one. Additionally you are now able to take advantage of newer features being provided by kernel hackers which are outside the scope of simple runtime patching.
We included the full source for the executable. Unlike many release groups, we believe that it is important to share the results of our research with the entire community to foster the rapid development of new features, and to increase the collective knowledge base. This application is based off the xbeboot source code from the xbox-linux team, and does not include any M$ copyrighted code. Please note that the xbox-linux team was not involved with this application, and does not endorse it. Please also note that as this application is a dervitave work of xbeboot, which is under the GNU GPL, this application is also licensed under the GNU GPL, and comes with no warranty, expressed or implied. If you are planning to use the source of this tool for another project, please read the GPL carefully first.

Usage:
You will need to provide your own bios and RC4 key as those are illegal to distribute without permission from Microsoft.
Currently working bioses: X2 4977 Boot From Media version (uses Debug RC4 key)

Future Plans:
We are working to get other debug bioses working with the bootloader. It is likely to be something we can accomplish quickly.
Additionally we are considering trying to load retail bioses as well, however this is a much more difficult task, and maybe more trouble than it's worth really.
Full nfo: maxconsole.com

Update from maxconsole:
you can get the debug key from the retail 2bl, so it's pretty easily available to anyone who can get their hands on a retail bios (which is everybody).

the bios size MUST be 1024k!

Xbox sales up, Microsoft sees market share gain
>> From forbes.com:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. sold more Xbox video game consoles in the June-ended quarter than it had first expected, though a price cut midway through the quarter played only a small part, an executive said Thursday.

Xbox remains a distant second behind PS2. Through May, according to data from NPDFunworld, the PS2 had a U.S. installed base of 17.7 million units.
The console market has largely become a two-horse race for share, with Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s GameCube underperforming all expectations and lagging behind the Xbox and PS2 in most markets.

The majority of the installed base to date, 6.2 million units, is in North America, with 2.2 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and 1 million in the Asia-Pacific region, which is primarily the Japanese market. The Xbox, by Microsoft's own admission, has struggled in Japan.
"We're making progress from an organizational perspective" in Japan, Bach said. "The share numbers haven't really moved one way or another."
Xbox Live, Microsoft's online gaming service, finished the year with about 500,000 subscribers, the company said, with expectations it will reach 1 million by next summer.
The attach rate, or average number of games sold per console, stood at about 5.4:1 in the United States and 5:1 globally as of June 30, Microsoft said.

MAMEoX v 0.71.2b
>> What's new/fixed:
* Enabled writeback caching for > 64 megs (Games should be playable on 128mb Xboxes)
* Exiting from a ROM to the ROM list should now be MUCH faster. For some, this was taking from 10 seconds to several minutes.
* Added code to allow 4 ROM paths
* Changed it so romstatus.xml file is only parsed when scanning for new ROMs. This decreases load time between ROMs for large XML files.
* Added public function to force reload the rom status file
* Fixed Backup feature (yet again, this is what, the 3rd time I broke it? I'm still surprised that people use it :))
* Added code to allow 4 ROM paths
* Changed the text for "problem ROM" filters
* Changed backup feature to use CopyFile, as it was broken in the change to multiple ROM paths (break #4 :)). For some reason MoveFile craps out when I try to move across partitions (or maybe just different logical drive letters)

Work In Progress: CXBX v0.7.7 (playing .xmv files)
>> Caustik already showed some images of Turok Evolution bootingscreens on his Xbox emulator project, now he released more pictures (from the Turok Evolution intro movie I think) and also some info on the ngemu.com Forums:
This is not a fake...
You will see this for yourself in 0.7.7 (whenever i get around to releasing)
Please note that this is an xmv movie, the graphics are not rendered by the 3D API, they are stored in an .xmv file and rendered to a surface.
I have not optimized the rendering at all, and there are unnecessary memory copies happening, but despite this I have no problems turning off vsync and getting 10 to 20x speed on my 2.6ghz + radeon 9500.
You really have to see this to believe it.

Xbox 2 gets a codename
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
According to men on the Internet, Xbox 2 is being referred to internally at Microsoft and trusted developers as "Xenon" - a rather more politically correct project codename than Project Midway, which is what the company called the original Xbox development work. Taking on the Japanese, see?

As for the next generation Xbox, well, chances are we're still going to call it Xbox 2 until Microsoft says otherwise. However, the system is actually unlikely to be called that when it finally arrives; Microsoft is apparently concerned that consumers might assume that Xbox 2 would be less powerful than PlayStation 3 because of the version numbers. Current bets are on "Xbox Next" as the brandname.

Xbox Sales Totals
>> From xboxrules.com:
According to EGM(as of 6/26) and some recent information from my inside sources, I have discovered the following sales statistics:
PS2: 51.2 million sold
Xbox: 13 million sold
GC: 9.4 million sold

This was over a month ago, but the most recent sales tally available, however Microsoft plans to release their fiscal sales totals within the coming weeks.
Only 5-6 months, prior to these sales figures, the Xbox was at 9 million. Strong sales indeed, over 50% increase in sales in 4 of the slowest months of gaming. In March Microsoft was believed to have said they did not expect another 1 million units sold by the end of June.
Don't forget, this is a "somewhat old" report and the figures may just be a rumor, but as always it's news, especially with Microsoft's upcoming fical year report!

Solderless Adaptor for the Chameleon
>> Team Xodus announced us their solderless adaptor for their chameleon modchip:
From The Original makers of the pogo pin chips we are pleased to announce the release of our second generation Solderless Adaptor for the Chameleon.

Greetings everyone. For the past months we have been working on our new adaptor with the goal of making it universal and easier to use than ever.

The challenges that we faced like, LPC holes with/without solder and D0 in different locations looked easy to solve but it required an extraordinary amount of work and testing to find the perfect combination.

Our elegant solution is based on precision plastic molding for the body with pogo pins that are of exact diameter, so in the case of solder in the LPC it will sit on top (of the solder) and in case of holes it will sit on the edge of the hole with the tip in the middle for the best connectivity. Please note that even the shape of the tip was chosen to give better contact and stability.

For the D0 we have chosen another original and unique system involving a spring wire (high carbon nickel coated spring steel, gold plated for better electrical contact durability) of 1.5cm that will reach any D0 point.

For the technically minded, you will notice that the D0 point has been routed to the "missing" LPC point, again another first for innovation and forethought :-P no more connectors and confusion, simply plug and play :-)

Extended Kernel support Plugin for !Loader 1.0-FX
>> From nfo:
Using a dynamic patching system !Loader offers you virtually the same features as most well established modchips - on unmodded Xboxes in software!

*NEW - ADDITIONAL KERNEL SUPPORT*
Kernel support 3944 - confirmed (XBOX V1.0 compatible)
Kernel support 4034 - confirmed (XBOX V1.0 compatible)
Kernel support 4817 - confirmed (XBOX V1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 compatible)

Issues:
Unfortunately our most recent 1.10 is dependant on kernel 4034 in order to address reset-on-eject issues, so in order to get this working on other kernels you will have to use this plugin inconjunction with our earlier 1.00 release.

libSDLx V1.2 - Xbox Release V0.01
>> From The readme:
This is a Xbox port of SDL. More information can be located at http://www.libsdl.org or http://www.lantus-x.com/SDLx for the Xbox version.

Notes
-----
- SDL and SDLMixer have been combined into one lib
- No Vorbis/OGG support (yet) - do people want this?
- if your SDL application uses MP3 support, you need to link libSMPEGx.lib in your target application. (For some reason trying to link libSMPEGx.lib in the libSDLx project causes INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR).
- SDL encapsulates Xbox API functionality. For example video routines create its own DirectX device, sound creates is own DSound device etc. So trying to mix xbapp.cpp etc and SDLx is bad news. The whole point of SDL is to provide a nice interface and portable code across platforms.
- Remember if you decide to port an existing SDL app/game/demo/emulator you must provide source code as per GPL.

Any problems with the lib contact me or discuss your issues on my SDLx forum at http://www.lantus-x.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=9.

I wont bother reading issues about how to compile code etc.

Finally if anyone has knowledge in setting up CVS to host the source contact me.
